In all, 33 cities had demonstrationsincluding all the capitals of the country. In São Paulo, about 42,400 people gathered on Paulista Avenue, according to the political debate monitor in the digital environment, linked to the University of São Paulo (USP). In Rio de Janeiro, about 41,800 people were at the time in Copacabana, which brought together artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Djavan and Chico Buarque.

“I want to greet all the artists who joined yesterday with tens of thousands of people on the streets of all Brazil to defend justice and fight against impunity and amnesty,” said Lula.

The president compared Sunday’s acts (21) to other historical popular movements for redemocratization and the right now, which aimed to resume direct elections to the position of President of the Republic, during the military dictatorship.

“This brings us the memory of the 1970s, during redemocratization, when their voices [dos artistas] They added to the voice of a population that cried for freedom. And from the right already, in the 1980s, when they chang by the people’s screaming for the right to vote for president. This is the greatest of all the arts: the show of democracy, ”said the president.
