Matanzas/An epidemiological alert announced in Cárdenas, Matanzas, has unleashed alarms in the population, due to the circulation of virosis caused by genre mosquitoes Aedes aegypti. The Yumurí TV page reported “the high incidence of Chikungunya, taking into account the disability it causes in people, while dengue circulates as a second variant.”
The publication He described the increase in cases as “remarkable” and added that it is a reason for commotion among the city’s residents, “with the presence of symptoms in all popular advice.” Although they clarified that deaths are not reported by these causes, or patients in a state of gravity, several comments suggest that there are cases of deaths. One of the people who affirms it, and who comments on the publication as Israel Roche, puts a neighbor as examples.
In Columbus, another of the Matancos municipalities most affected by the epidemiological crisis, Olga’s family has seen “one to all the relatives in bed one by one,” says the woman, the only one in her house that has not yet been infected. “It gives many pains in the joints, when it seems that you are already going out, patients suffering from high pressure are already shot,” he explains to this newspaper.

“My mother who is almost 90 years old has a very bad time and still has trouble walking,” he explains. “We took her to the polyclinic but the doctor who attended her little could do, told her to rest and take a lot of liquid.” In Jagüey Grande, Jovellanos, Los Arabos, Santa Marta and Las Guásimas are some of the most affected localities in the province.
“There has been no puppet with a head,” warns a taxi driver resident in Santa Marta who lives from taking tourists between the nearby varadero and the provincial head. The man points to the lack of hygiene and the little fumigation against mosquitoes as the main causes of the current health problems suffered by the residents of the area. “In Varadero they have fumigated all these days but neither the plane nor the trucks come here,” he laments.
It is also reported on the official website that “several samples have been sent to the IPK (Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute) and the results confirm the presence of COVID or other viruses caused by the Aedes.” They add that all health areas are activated and that conditions are created to increase cases in the hospital.
Similarly, fumigation campaigns “are announced even with the fuel deficit and other supplies necessary to fumigate.” The Cardenenses have reacted denouncing the large amounts of garbage that accumulate in landfills and the lack of chapeo in large grass areas, which constitute a usual focus of mosquitoes.
Health authorities in the municipality called for extreme care in homes and go to health institutions before any symptoms. They also warned that the greatest risk lies today in people with diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma and other chronic noncommunicable ailments, due to the possibility of “triggering severe complications to the medication deficit.”

Yaniel Mesa, a young doctor, commented that in Jagüey Grande they present the same panorama as in Cárdenas: “I think that the 13 municipalities are equal,” he wrote. Table holds the government of unhealthiness and proliferation of the vector, consequences of the lack of garbage collection, blackouts and misery. “My whole family is sick with a fever of 39 degrees, headache, myalgia and arthritis of the big joints. The alarm extends not only to other Matancos municipalities, but also to other provinces. From Holguín, neighbors report 14ymedio Cases with similar symptoms, without frequent investigations, as in previous shoots. They also denounce the increase of mosquitoes and hexes, as well as ailments that have begun to popularly call as “Covidengue”, since it presents symptoms that combine those caused by dengue and COVID-19.
