Cuban economy: discuss to act

Cuban economy: discuss to act

Recently, my friend and colleague Ileana Díaz has published an excellent and brief comment Regarding the current policy related to the business world, both on the limitations that state companies continue to operate and with incongruities with respect to private and cooperative companies.

Both one and the other should be part of a diverse and coherent business fabric, in a dynamic of adequately integrated markets and regulated by the State, with economic and politically founded criteria and not with inconsistencies and with the permanence of bureaucratic planning clearly surpassed by reality.

This is the proposal that some economists have been presenting and insisting on it for years of years, in some cases more than 30 years: integral socialist reform! And the contents of what that means are there, in black and white, in extensive and in details, in sight, to be discussed.

Ileana coordinated an excellent book from the Center for Studies of the Cuban Economy of the University of Havana, where we both work on the specific issue of the business issue.

Other books contain comprehensive approaches to the economic model and its essential transformation; Others contain sectoral analyzes, etc. These proposals should at least be received and discussed seriously, not only tolerated in the limited spaces of the academic world. But, as is evident, no one listens (of which they must listen).

I have no doubt that in those conceptions it is, in large part, the reason and the successful alternatives, as evidence demonstrates. Of course I am aware that no one has the absolute truth. If a total truth exists, it is the need to discuss this matter among all those who have something serious and committed to say to overcome the difficult situation in which the Cuban national economy and society are.

Let us argue seriously, with responsibility and with a clear commitment to the future of Cuba in the mind and in the soul, the commitment to the inalienable sovereignty of the nation, with social justice and with economic and democratic development. Discuss to act.

If we continue with more of the same and on their backs to a serious and respectful discussion that must already be inevitable, we will move away from the route. Where will we go?

Of course, the perverse aggression of the United States cannot be granted anything, it must be condemned without ambiguity and always, but the repeated internal errors either.

What is at stake is a lot. I hope there is yet. It is a situation that anguish. Meanwhile, we will continue to insist, as Gramsci said, with the pessimism of the mind and the optimism of the heart.
