The Marina Secretariat reported that the ship arrived at the “Pier 86” dock in Manhattan, New York, after performing evidence that showed satisfactory results, both of the operation of its navigation system and the auxiliary propeller.
Likewise, the links of the external communications equipment were consolidated and the resistance of their trees and rigging, a transverse and longitudinal firm, that is, the correct functioning of their sailing propulsion system was proven.
The Secretary of the Navy said that the ship is a fundamental part of the formation of Mexican sailors and becomes a naval tradition that prevails since 43 years with the emblem of discipline and tenacity.
“This naval institution reaffirms the strength of the Cuauhtémoc school ship, which after having obtained favorable results, will continue to carry a message of good will in the seas of the world and sailing in the name of Mexico as a symbol of pride and honor of our country,” he said.
According to a report by the National Board of Transportation Security, the Cuauhtémoc ship suffered damage of more than half a million dollars. This is because the upper part of the three masts broke or folded after passing under the Brooklyn bridge.
“NTSB research on all aspects of the accident continues; we are examining the propulsion system, the operation control system, the experience and training of relevant crew and operating policies and procedures,” says the preliminary report.
Federal Government data indicate that since 1982, the Cuauhtémoc ship has traveled the seas of the world.
“His keel has cut the waves to carry the message of peace and goodwill of the Mexican people to many nations, roasting in hundreds of ports to perform as one of the most relevant ambassadors of our nation,” is mentioned in a government statement.
