New York. – He former president of the Dominican Republic and leader of the Force of the People (FP), Leonel Fernández, said Sunday that the current management of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has caused a setback in basic services, indicating that, “Hospitals are more sick than patients”, in reference to the deterioration of National Health System.
The statements were issued in a meeting with members of the central direction and other leaders of the people’s force in New York, as part of the political agenda developed by Fernández in the United States.
The ex -president recalled that his political organization was born as a minority force and that today occupies a relevant place in the national scene. “We start being a minority force on the ballot number 18. We have been growing. Today we are in number 2, and what awaits us is in 2028 to be number 1, but it will not be only a triumph for us as a party, it will be the triumph of the Dominican people,” affirmed.

Fernández emphasized that the Dominican Republic had experienced advances on essential issues in the last 50 years and that they are currently presenting serious problems, which cannot continue to be reproduced in the 21st century. “That there are daily blackouts of four and eight hours is not possible. That hospitals such as El Salvador B. Gautier have to demolish because they are more sick than the patients they receive, that is not possible. Some students start the school year in containers, that is not the vision of a modern society we aspire to,” he denounced.
Electoral processes
Around the low participation of the Dominicans abroad during the past elections, he said that the FP will hire an pollster to investigate the causes and guarantee a greater mobilization in the 2028 elections. “We have to guarantee a mass vote in 2028, because to the extent that a greater number of people vote, so we guarantee the victory. We always win in the United States,” he said.
The former president also valued Dominican talent in different areas, highlighting sports figures such as Juan Marichal and Juan Soto, who considered examples of the country’s international projection. “When Juan Soto gives a homer, not only did he give it for the METS, but for the Dominican Republic,” he said, in a passage that was received with applause.
He also referred to the growing disappointment that people of the current government administration have, which motivates the growth of the force of the people. “We are feeling everywhere how people want to be part of the strength of the people, it is because they feel that there has been a failure with the current management, and the failure is mainly due to inefficiency,” he said.
About the agenda
The meeting with leaders in New York took place at noon this Sunday, and in the afternoon the ex -president leads a great swearing in new members that are added from various political organizations to the force of the people.
In parallel to these activities, Fernández develops a wide agenda that includes academic, political and community meetings in several cities in the United States. He has already participated in technological innovation forums, meetings with entrepreneurs and spaces for dialogue on governance and migration, within the framework of his visit, which will run until the end of September.
