Thousands of people occupied on Sunday (21) Copacabana Beach, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, to protest against the Smoping PEC and amnesty to convicted of coup by the Supreme Court (STF), including former President Jair Bolsonaro, former ministers and allies.
The proposal of amendment to the constitution repudiated by protesters was approved by the House of Representatives last Tuesday (16). In practice, the measure makes it difficult to open criminal proceedings against parliamentarians by imposing that legislative houses should approve the opening of these processes.
To the screams of “without amnesty” and “live democracy”, Protesters gathered at the time of Copacabana’s edge five to listen to the speeches of political leaders and watch the shows of singers Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Paulinho da Viola, Djavan, among others.
Caetano Veloso said during the musical act that democracy in Brazil resists. According to him, the national culture has great vitality.
“We can’t help but respond to the horrors that have been insinuating around us.”
Gilberto Gil recalled that Brazil has already experienced similar moments in its history. “We go through similar moments always in search of autonomy, the greatest good of our people,” he said.
From students to retirees
Retired federal public servant Regina de Brito, 68, was one of the first to arrive, to be very close to the singers of the musical act. She said it was very important to support the movement against those who tried to plan a blow in the country.
“I was raised in the military dictatorship. I know how it was. These guys have just been convicted, nor are they serving pity and already want amnesty? And this villain congress, from the right, instead of vote for the people’s agenda, such as the exemption of income tax up to $ 5,000, is a congress that does not think of the people in any instance, just think of the belly button.”
The student of the state public network of Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense, Caio dos Santos, 16, said he was in the act because he found very important the movement of the Brazilian people against “the disservice to the population made by the National Congress”.
“I think this banditry PEC is a total disrespect with our face. The Brazilian people cannot watch quiet what they are doing. I, as a public network, have an obligation to be against people like Bolsonaro, who only cheer for the evil of education, health. They do not add anything good to our population, our society,” he criticized.
“From what I study the dictatorship, I try to spread this awareness among my friends to the non-return of the far right and consciousness at the time of the vote,” added Caio.
Accompanied by his wife, retired criminal policeman Edson Enio Martins Tonnel, 75, also arrived early on the act to protest against the House of Representatives.
“If we do not react, the House will become a Bandados Antro. I think this PEC, the Senate should stop. Any bandit will apply, will be deputy and make the situation worse. The crime goes to Brasilia more than it is already. Regardless of our age, each one has to collaborate for the good of Brazil, our family.
With friends of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, in Seropédica, 20 -year -old architecture student Leticia Rocha said the story cannot be repeated. “We can never forget the past. A victory we had was Bolsonaro’s conviction.”
