“It maintains its operations stable, despite the fire registered in the early morning,” said the Electric Union.

Lima, Peru – the Electric Union (UNE) of Cuba assured in a recent publication That the Antonio Maceo Thermoelectric Central (Renté), in Santiago de Cuba, is “operating normally after fire in fuel oil plant.” He also reported that Unit 5 damaged last Saturday would be incorporated into the National Electroenergetic System.

“It maintains its operations stable, despite the fire recorded in the early hours of Sunday in a nearby installation dedicated to the generation with fuel oil,” says the UNE.

The incident occurred at the Fuel Oil power station, located in the same geographical area but independent of the main thermoelectric system, explained the engineer Jesús Aguilar Hernández, general director of the CTE Renté.

“The incident did not affect the operation or the safety of the thermoelectric plant,” ratifies the publication.

However, despite the apparent mastery of the situation in the Santiago thermoelectric plant, it is united by the simultaneous blackouts will reach about 49% of the national territory, with a generation deficit close to 1,640 megawatts (MW) during the highest consumption hours.

According to the official part, the maximum planned capacity is 1,860 MW, compared to an estimated demand of 3,500 MW, which would leave an impact of 1.710 MW in the electrical system. The company indicates that several Thermoelectric units They remain out of service due to maintenance or breakdowns, and that dozens of distributed generation engines remain inactive due to the lack of diesel and fuel.

The crisis, which already extends for more than five years, struggles with the eastern provinces. In territories such as Holguín, Granma and Santiago de Cuba, the blackouts often exceed 14 and up to 20 hours a day, while in Havana the cuts are around 10 am.

These last weeks have been especially critical on the island due to a new collapse of the national electrical system that left almost the entire island off, the fifth so far from 2025.
