The city of São Paulo hosted this week a meeting of politicians, academics, communicators, among other personalities of the progressive field, to discuss the directions of the country. The event occurs shortly after the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro and his allies for the attempted coup d’état at the events that culminated in the invasion of the headquarters of the three powers in Brasilia on January 8, 2023.
The event, called Awakening 2025, began this Friday (19) and ends this Saturday (20). Among the speakers of the first day were names such as sociologist, researcher and teacher Jessé Souza, Cuban doctor Aleida Guevara and journalist Serginho Groisman. This Saturday (20) is the turn of the Minister of Environment, Marina Silva, scientist Miguel Nicolelis, Minister of Culture, Margareth Meneses, among others.
One of the lines adopted by the speakers is that the progressive field should be dedicated to discussing and bringing the population to the discussion of the agendas that concern the worker, the poorin short, to the vast majority of the population. The debate also addresses the influence that the right and the far right have exerted in societyeven in people historically forgotten by politicians of this ideological field.
Jessé de Souza, for example, defended the debate on the function of communication and public space. “These people are not right, they are on the right. And they are on the right for a very simple reason, they are disoriented. We have a country that has one of the worst unforeseen of our planet, is a venal press, sold to money,” he told the Brazil agency.
“The left does not even realize that the main political work is of clarification of people, because they are like this, they have anger. Why? Because, because life, jobs are getting worse, there is no such thing in the future. People are angry, obviously! And it’s a tight anger,” he added.
The event is being promoted by the Knowledge Liberto Institute (ICL). Eduardo Moreira, founder of the Institute, also defends a reflection in the way the progressive field organizations communicate with society.
“The left came to call a lot of communication to want to tell these people all, to the whole population, but so far has not stopped to listen to these people. So, I think if we really want to develop mass communication, we have to create spaces for the dough to talk and we listen. Brazil agency.
Work
One of the speakers was Judge Luiz Philippe Mello Filho, elected to the presidency of the Superior Labor Court (TST). In an interview with Brazil agencyhe highlighted the urgency of a greater balance between capital and labor, and cited the case of application workers. “We have a social setback and we need to maintain a protection regulation for all platform workers,” said the magistrate.
For him, the current scenario, with more people having mobile apps as bosses, is a “precariousness unprecedented of human labor in Brazil”.
Artificial intelligence
Nicodelis, in his lecture on Saturday, denied that the machine will one day replicate the functioning of the human brain. For him, the danger is to stop exercising the brain by leaving cognitive tasks to artificial intelligence.
“The more we delegate functions to the machine, [mais] We are losing cognitive attributes and the brain realizes that you no longer need to spend energy on it, ”explains the researcher.“ Who today knows two or three phones? ”He asked.
World
The international scenario was not ignored. The interventions of the United States and other powers against the small nations, as well as the massacre promoted in Gaza, were also remembered. Pediatrician Aleida Guevara sees the urgency of protecting children, such as Palestinians. Still, it considers itself optimistic about the future.
“I always think positive, because, for me, the human being is incalculable, the ability of the human being to love is tremendous. And love is the greatest strength in this world. So if I did not think so, it would no longer exist as a person. I am a pediatrician by profession and I always see in children a much better future. From this childhood. Work with this childhood to be young, strong, healthy and then free adults. ”
