A resilient Leonel Fernández could aspire to get to power for the fourth time in his political career, dressed in a resort with serious internal conflict in the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), which resulted in his resignation and subsequent formation of his own party.
Its history in the exercise of power dates back to 1996, when with just 42 years to win the presidency, becoming one of the youngest leaders to reach that position in the Dominican Republic.
At that time, the outstanding disciple of Professor Juan Bosch, with the support of Joaquín Balaguer, defeated the greatest mass leader in the country: José Francisco Peña Gómez, of the Dominican Revolutionary Party.
In 2019, after problems with Danilismo, the power group of the moment, Fernández decides to resign from the PLD, claiming that fraud had been made to impose Gonzalo Castillo as presidential candidate.

Faced with that reality, he ventured to form the force of the people (FP), of progressive ideology, taking with him a tiny group of leaders.
History
In 2004, Fernández returns to power with 57%, defeating President Hipólito Mejía who unsuccessfully tried to re -elect, despite the social economic crisis that the country lived.
In the 2008 general elections, Fernández reached his third victory with 53.83 %, beating the PRD and its candidate Miguel Vargas Maldonado, which reached 40.48 %.
In 2012 Leonel did everything possible, as was indeed, for Danilo Medina to win Hipólito Mejía.
Quirino
After his departure from power, the confessor Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo accused former President Fernández of having a monetary debt with him.
For many, the action was a stratagema of power, in order to disqualify and achieve more easily the constitutional reform so that subsequently President Danilo Medina could be re-elected for the 2016-2020 period.
Positioning
In 2020, Leonel Fernández makes an alliance with the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), an organization that achieves the PLD out of power, which was 16 years old interrupted ruling.
In the 2024 elections, the FP led by Fernández displaced the purple party from the second electoral position, which barely reached 10.39 %. There he achieved 28 %.
In these elections its electoral role did not go unnoticed, achieving more than 8 % according to the scrutiny of the Central Electoral Board (JCE).
Today, almost 30 years after winning power for the first time, Leonel Fernández, 71, continues to swarm in the electoral spectrum and determined to climb the stairs of the National Palace in August of 2028.
