Rafael Núñez de Cartagena International Airport Inaugurated a technological system of automatic access control that will reduce between 35% and 40%. The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), through the OINAC concession, announced the implementation of this mechanism, which makes the terminal the third in the country to implement this type of solution and the second in the Caribbean region.

The system, called Veripax, integrates intelligent sensors and QR code readers who guide the traveler from the entrance to the approach area. With this implementation, ANI seeks to improve user experience, strengthen security processes and optimize the traceability of passengers that travel through the main Colombian Caribbean air terminal.
“The Rafael Núñez airport, the most important air terminal in the Caribbean, is already on work through small changes, we have already begun to generate great impacts on national and foreign passengers. The incorporation of technological solutions encourages a more efficient operation and oriented to the comfort of travelers, to the well -being of visitors and the development of Cartagena as a key destination for national tourism,” Oscar Torres Yarzagaray, president of the ANI indicated.
In total, Six electronic accesses were installed: four in national and two exits in international. These input points have special mechanisms for people with reduced mobility. The configuration of the new accesses seeks that the process be more fluid and comfortable for the passenger, from its first contact with the airport facilities to the boarding area.

The airport grant manager, Carlos Cuartas, highlighted the importance of this innovation within the framework of the works in execution. “This is a key step in our modernization strategy. We are incorporating technology to offer a safer, efficient and aligned experience with international standards,” affirmed.
An infrastructure in transformation
The implementation of the new technology is integrated into the Expansion and Modernization project of the Rafael Núñez International Airport, which includes an investment exceeding 920,000 million pesos and a constructive period of 30 months. These works are carried out under the current concession contract and seek to respond to the growing air demand in Cartagena, Consolidated city as a national and international tourist destination.
The modernization plan includes the construction of a new international terminal of 19,593 square meters, the extension of the commercial platform in 15,740 square meters and the integral remodeling of 25,144 square meters of the existing terminal. These interventions are part of a package of 22 works grouped into two functional units.
Among the main projects is the construction of a three -level building that will have 330 parking spaces, which will improve attention to travelers and visitors. A new shooting street will also be built parallel to the track, designed to optimize aircraft circulation and reduce operating times.
Likewise, the installation of five approach bridges with Swing Gate technology is planned, which will allow to attend national and international flights in a flexible way. This measure seeks to increase the efficiency of the operation and respond to changes in flight programming without affecting user comfort.

Security, Sustainability and Employment
The project includes the construction of a duct Jet that will transfer the fuel storage system to an area further from residential areas. This work seeks to mitigate environmental impacts and reduce auditory pollution that currently affects the Crespo neighborhood. To this measure is added the implementation of a new fuel filling center under international safety and sustainability standards.
According to the ANI, these interventions will allow a more efficient, reliable and environmentally responsible supply, adjusted to the needs of a terminal in the process of expansion. The new architecture of the operation systems has also been designed to guarantee flexibility, stability and continuity, even against unforeseen events.
Ongoing work will benefit more than 1.9 million people and generate 2,700 direct and indirect jobs. The concession contract has a total duration of 8.5 years, which includes a year of preconstruction, 30 months of construction and the period of operation and maintenance.
