Second is the Valle del Cauca, with 15,662 records, followed by Antioquia with 14,480, Santander with 8,758 and Nariño with 7,142. These five departments concentrate the greatest number of citizens called Brayan, evidencing how the name has achieved broad dissemination in different regions of the country, especially in areas of the Colombian center and west.
The phenomenon does not stop there. The Top 10 of departments with more Bryans is completed by Boyacá (6,333), Tolima (6,298), Atlantic (6,119), Norte de Santander (5,992), Cauca (5,691) and Huila (5,454). These data show that, beyond the big cities, the name is also very common in intermediate and rural regions.
Although in recent years there has been a rise of more Anglo -Saxon or creative names, Brayan – in their different spelling variants – has managed to stay as one of the favorites among Colombian parents. Its popularity has been subject to cultural analysis and also comments on social networks, where it has become a matter of humor or collective identity.
Some sociologists consider that names such as Brayan reflect processes of globalization and social aspirations of Colombian families during the 80s and 90s, when names influenced by American cinema, television and culture began to proliferate. With the passage of time, the name has gone from being “modern” to become part of the daily landscape.
Beyond any stereotype, the truth is that Brayan is already a name deeply rooted in Colombian society. The figures of the Registry confirm it: there are thousands of Bryanes in every corner of the country, and its presence will continue to be part of the cultural identity for many more years.
