The United Nations General Assembly approved on Friday a resolution that will allow the president of the Palestinian authority, Mahmud Abbas, to participate telematically in the sessions planned for next week, despite the fact that the United States vetoed the physical entry claiming that “undermines the perspectives of peace” in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The vote in the UN Plenary was overwhelming: 145 countries in favor, six abstentions and five votes against, including Israel and the USA.
This measure marks a key point in the international scenario, just when Israel intensifies its land and aerial offensive in the city of Gaza, announcing that it will use an “unprecedented force” against the Islamic Resistance Movement -Hamás- that has not been able to defeat in about two years of war.
Mahmud Abbas reported that the Palestinian authority will be present at all UN meetings to defend their interests and denounce the crimes that it considers genocide and displacement.
American veto and global support for the Palestinian voice
The American veto at the entrance of Abbas was collected in a decision of the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who communicated the revocation of visas for officials of the Palestinian authority and the PLO, under the argument of his “breach of commitments” and of undermining La Paz.
The decision was strongly criticized by Palestine, which described it as a flagrant violation of the UN Headquarters Agreement of 1947, which guarantees the free participation of all its members.
However, the Assembly supported mostly the resolution that allows Abbas telematic participation, which the Palestinian Foreign Ministry celebrated recognizing the importance of “the Palestinian voices” are heard at this juncture and criticizing attempts to disturb the UN work.
This Sunday, Portugal will officially recognize the state of Palestine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday, just before the UN General Assembly in which other countries will do the same.
France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and other nations, confirmed that in the same assembly they will announce the validation of the Palestinian State.
According to official French sources, this statement will take place Monday during a meeting chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, which will raise to 157 the number of countries that recognize Palestine as a sovereign state.

Israeli offensive: “unprecedented force” and massive exodus in Gaza
The focus of the conflict intensifies in Gaza, where the Israeli army warned this Friday that it will continue to apply an unprecedented force in the city to eliminate Hamas.
The call to civilians to flee south has resulted in a massive forced evacuation of approximately 450 thousand that have abandoned the city, according to the Civil Defense of Gaza, with similar figures calculated by the Israeli army.
The offensive, which combines air and land attacks, has caused a humanitarian catastrophe. The displaced Palestinians relate the hardness of the flight on foot or in carts, the shortage of affordable transport and the anguish of abandoning homes without guarantees where to take refuge.
Local hospitals reported at least 41 deaths in the strip on Friday, 11 of them in Gaza. Israel closed the main Salah Al Din evacuation road, making it difficult to leave the south by saturated and dangerous alternative roads.
International recognition and crossed condemnations
The recognition announced by France, Portugal, the United Kingdom and other countries arrives at a time when tensions are intensified.
Israel described this decision as counterproductive and a “capitulation” against Hamas, while the United States maintains vetoes and sanctions against the Palestinian representatives participating in the UN.
French president Emmanuel Macron, after talking with Abbas, reaffirmed his commitment to recognition and a peace plan that includes stable Palestinian governance and coexistence of two states.
The French president described the decision as necessary to provide “peace and security” to both Israelis and Palestinians and announced that he will express this position in the General Assembly.
For his part, the Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati stressed the categorical rejection of his country to the displacement of the Palestinians of their territory during a telephone conversation with the special envoy of the United States for Western Asia, Steve Witkoff.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, which reports the Iranian Portal Hispantv, both diplomats talked about the events in Gaza, the regional distension and the Iranian nuclear issue.
The head of Egyptian diplomacy emphasized the urgent need to stop the genocidal Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, denouncing the serious humanitarian repercussions for its residents.
Abdel Ati warned of Trump’s special envoy that the displacement of more than 2.1 million gazaties constitutes “a fundamental element of instability” in the region and directly undermines regional security.
