Vente Venezuela’s Human Rights Committee denounced this Friday the deterioration of the state of health by Yerwin Torrealba, youth coordinator of the party in Yaracuy state, arrested since December 19 at the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) in La Cuchilla, San Felipe municipality.
According to the report released by the organization, the 26 -year -old suffers acute colitis, acute cystitis, bladder sedimentation and intestinal complications. These conditions were confirmed after an abdominal ecosonogram and add up to an appendicitis that required emergency surgical intervention on April 29.
The organization denounced that, after the operation, Torrealba returned to the Prison Center without fulfilling the recommended medical observation 24 hours, which highlights systematic negligence in the care of political prisoners in Venezuela.
Given this, the Vente Venezuela Human Rights Committee He demanded urgent medical care for Yerwin Torrealba and held the Venezuelan state responsible for any aggravation of his condition.
According to the Venezuelan NGO justice, encounter and forgiveness (JEP), at least 60 political prisoners, including 50 men and 10 women, suffer “very serious” diseases, including five with diagnosed cancer.
Martha Tineo, JEP coordinator, said last August that many of these people would not be receiving the necessary medical care.
And he added that “the list could be broader if we consider people with chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney diseases.”
