The expansion comes amid one of the driest weeks of the year, with alert to burning throughout the state and in some preservation areas, such as cruise, with persistent fires for days.
In August, the average rainfall in the system that supplies the 20 million inhabitants of the metropolitan region was less than a third of the historical averagewhich is about 30 mm in the region. The drought period, which he usually ends in mid -September, has not yet signs of ending.
THE first phase of water supply regulation was implemented on August 27. According to Sabesp, 7.25 billion liters of water have been saved so far, enough to serve about 800,000 people for a month.

The table reinforces the importance of constant monitoring and attention to climate variations that directly impact water balance and supply safety,” says the committee note.
The Monitoring Bulletin points out that the Metropolitan Integrated System (SIM) operates today with 32.8% of the useful volume, 7.7 percentage points lower than in 2021.
Cantareira and Alto Tietê systems, which concentrate about 80% of the system’s capacity, register 30.3% and 26.1% of storage, respectively. The average drop in the last week was 0.26% per day.
