A Cuban state company offers jobs with wages of up to 28,000 pesos

Havana/The state company Logistic Services Mariel SA (SLM), located in the Special Development Zone of Mariel (ZEDM), is looking for employees. According to Workersthat He published the callthe company needs to cover 33 positions and offers salaries from 12,000 pesos and up to 28,206, depending on the position and level of application of applicants.

The offer is published in a moment of mass escape of workers in the state sector, beaten by devalued wages, bad conditions and a constant exodus, both abroad and towards the private sector, where better salaries are paid. In addition, it coincides with the announcement of the hiring of masons and carpenters for the Granada Embassy, which begins this Thursday to examine the candidacies of thousands of Cubans attracted by salaries of 800 dollars per month plus accommodation and transport.

SLM, considered the main logistics operator of the ZEDM, seeks drivers, maintenance operators, automotive electricians, secretaries, legal advisors, energy saving technicians and human resources management, as well as security agents, scarfs and mechanics. The company, to make its offer attractive – and because its work in the most important economic enclave of the island allows it to ensure certain benefits – also offers food, transport, quarterly payment of profits and the “possibility” of assigning housing after five years, said Yanara to dissolve Diaz, human resources technique.

SLM conditions are very difficult to find in other state entities, but does not deliver Cubans to have to charge in pesos in a dollarized economy

SLM conditions are very difficult to find in other state entities, but does not deliver Cubans to have to collect in pesos in a dollarized economy, be exposed to blackouts and suffer the absence of basic services.

In the light of inflation, benefits also lose attractive. In August, the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) published a report in which the Average salary of the island in 6,649 pesos per month. Then, the official press celebrated it as a “significant increase”, but the truth is that inflation – of the 14.37% year -on -year at the end of July – and the constant depreciation of the national currency against the dollar erodes those profits. In the informal market, the dollar has reached 420 pesos, which means that the average salary is today equivalent to just 16 dollars per month.

The SLM, much higher, go from $ 28 to 67, an not negligible amount on the island, but which pales in the face of job offer published by the Granada Embassy.

The small Caribbean country has promised a weekly salary of 200 dollars (a figure close to the average salary), with accommodation, transport and fully covered migratory procedures. The selected workers will also have insured round trip tickets. In other words, a Cuban in Granada could win in a week what he barely receives in a whole year in his own country, without counting the basic expenses.

The Granadina proposal has the plus of offering an exit – less temporary – of the country and the consequent escape of the blackouts and other difficulties that hinder the daily life of residents on the island, in addition perhaps to be a springboard to undertake a trip without return.

Aware that Cubans find less and less solutions working for the State, the Government has opted for desperate measures: distribute the salaries of vacancies among active employees as an incentive. However, the measure does not solve the problem of low income, but disguises it while the workforce is still looking for opportunities, even if it is outside the country.

The Granada case itself demonstrates it. As reported by the Embassy of that country, Miles have postulated and their staff does not supply all requests.
