The National Registry launched a citizen alert against an attempt to scam that circulates by callsapp calls and messages. According to the entity, unscrupulous people are going through officials to offer, free of charge, the process of the digital citizenship card and its cell phone activation.
The agency clarified that these communications “are false and their purpose is malicious” and that their only purpose is to deceive people to steal personal data. Therefore, he asked citizens not to respond, not share sensitive information and much less open links that can put their digital safety at risk.
“It is noteworthy that the National Registry, through calls, WhatsApp messages or emails, does not offer free identity documents or the activation of the digital card on the cell phone,” said the entity.
The process of this document can only be carried out in person at the headquarters of the Registry at the national level or in the consulates. In addition, the payment is carried out only by the PSE platform on the official page or at the authorized collection points. No intermediaries or managers are needed to advance the process.
The entity also recalled that the activation of the digital card on the cell phone is done directly through the official application “Colombia Digital Card”, without the need for officials or third parties to intervene.
With this call, the Registry seeks that Colombians be attentive and do not fall into deceptions that can end in identity theft or electronic fraud.
