The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) charged Jorge Alejandro Barrios Pinto, 24 years old and Alan Isidro Chapiaje Méndez, 21, to allegedly commit the crimes of illegal exercise of mining activities in the Amazon state, improper management of hazardous substances or materials, aggravated smuggling and crouch.
According to the authorities’ report, both subjects were arrested on September 7 in the indigenous community of Carida, located in the Atabapo municipality of the Amazon State.
The authorities intercepted them when they moved along the Orinoco River in a bongo -type vessel, propelled by an outboard engine. The operation was in charge of officials of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), who did an inspection and found 19 drums containing 3,990 liters of diesel and 220 liters of gasoline.
Likewise, a motobomba, three maraca hoses, two diesel engine counts and a metal anchor was seized.
After the decision of the Public Ministry, the 3rd Court of Control issued the deprivation of liberty against the accused and ordered his temporary seclusion in the Bolivarian National Guard Command (GNB) of Atabapo.
