The Academy announced on Wednesday the list of nominees at the 26 annual delivery of the Latin Grammy Awards. This year a total of 60 categories will be awarded. Bad Bunny is the artist with more nominations.
Regarding Cuban music, this year surprises the wide presence of artists and groups that reached nominations, especially when in the last edition no Cuban artist resident on the island achieved it.
This year the list of Cubans who aspire to gold gramophone is made up of creators from inside and outside the island, but all defenders of the most genuine Cuban music.
The presence of Cuban names in fundamental categories stands out, as an album of the year in which singer Gloria Estefan is nominated for her album Roots; or better new artist in which Camila Guevara appears.
Likewise, the best traditional tropical album section, this year has been left only for Cubans, since Gloria Estefan itself appears with Malena Burke and Meme Solis for the album Malena Burke sings to Meme Solis, Vol. 1 and the FAILDE orchestra with Walking Piango Piango.
Other categories such as best contemporary tropical album, best instrumental album and best Latin jazz/jazz album also gather several Cubans among their nominees.
Other Cuban names like Chucho Valdés, ISSAC DELGADO, Alain Pérez, Pedrito MartínezAriel Brínguez, Ivan Melón Lewis, Aldo López Gavilán and Paquito D´Rivera, also aspire to Latin Grammy 2025.
The main categories were presented in a video on the YouTube channel of Latin Grammy, in which Manuel Abud, CEO of the Latin Recording Academy, explained that this year two new categories were added to the contest: Best Root Song and Best Music for Audiovisual Media.

“In addition, we make adjustments in the names and criteria of eligibility and selection in various areas. All these modifications seek to better represent those who give life to the sound essence of our culture,” said Abud.
He also explained that the call for this edition of the Grammy was open from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025 and that more than 20 thousand works were registered, whose eligibility and classification was in charge of a group of experts and more than 300 members of the academy personally gathered in Miami and Rio de Janeiro. Then these works were evaluated by the more than 4,600 voters of the Academy in more than 50 countries.
The Latin Grammy 2025 Awards will be delivered on November 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
