The Minister of Defense of ChinaDong Jun, held on Tuesday in Beijing an encounter with his Cuban counterpart, Álvaro López Miera, in which both parties pledged to boost bilateral military cooperation and to strengthen political coordination between the two countries.
Dong said that the ties between China and Cuba are “a model of solidarity and cooperation between socialist countries” and mutual assistance between developing nations, the news agency reported Tuesday Xinhua.
The Chinese general said that Beijing is willing to work with Havana to apply the consensus achieved by the leaders of both states, expand personnel exchanges and bring military relations to “a new level.”
López Miera, who is located in the Chinese capital to attend the XiangShan forum – the annual event of the military diplomacy of the Asian giant – expressed the support of Cuba to the four great global initiatives promoted by President Xi Jinping and said that the island will continue to consolidate and strengthen its “special friendship” with Pekín.
The meeting is part of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, characterized by a close political and ideological tune and by the will to expand economic and financial exchanges.

At the beginning of September, the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, already met with XI in Beijing, where he traveled to attend the parade for the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in the Pacific, occasion when both stressed that their links are going through “their best moment” and signed several cooperation agreements.
China is one of the main political allies and commercial partners of Cuba, which is going through a serious economic and financial crisis, and has backed the island against the American embargo.
