The Atlantic Immigration Programas indicated by the Government of Canada, is a path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers and international graduates of a Canadian institution who wish to work and live in 1 of the 4 Atlantic provinces.
The objective is to attract and retain qualified workers and international graduates for the mentioned places. The Atlantic Immigration Program had a pilot test that began in 2017 and brought 10,000 new residents to the provinces.
WHAT IS THE ATLANTIC IMMIGRATION PROGRAM?
Atlantic Immigration Program (Atlantic Immigration Pilot) is a fast-track immigration program that allows employers in Canada’s four Atlantic provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island) to hire qualified applicants for jobs they have not able to cover locally.
Introduced in 2017, the federal government and its provincial government partners aim to welcome more than 7,000 newcomers and their families to Atlantic Canada.
What is the job offer?
Employers in the four Canadian provinces have made more than 9,800 job openings in key sectors, including health care, accommodation, food services and manufacturing, according to a statement from the Ministry of Immigration and Citizenship (IRCC). More than 90% of applicants were still living in the region after 1 year; a much higher retention rate than other programs.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Although each province has its own requirements, to apply for the Atlantic Immigration Program This is the minimum that is required:
- Receive a job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic Canada to participate in the program.
- Be a recent graduate of a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada or a skilled worker.
- You may be living abroad or already in Canada as a temporary resident.
- You must meet the minimum language requirements.
- If you studied outside of Canada, you need a report from evaluation of educational credentialss (RCT).

WHAT MUST THE EMPLOYER OFFER?
The job offer must meet all of these requirements:
- The job offer must be full-timewhich means you will work at least 30 paid hours per week.
- The job offer must be non-seasonal . In general, this means that you have steady, regularly scheduled paid employment throughout the year.
- For job offers of skill level or type NOC 0, A or B the employer must offer you a job that lasts at least 1 year (1 year from the time you become a permanent resident).
- For Skill Level Job Postings NOC C the employer must offer you permanent employment, that is, there is no set end date.
- The job offer cannot come from a company in which you (the applicant) or your spouse are majority owners.
- The job offer must be at or above the same skill level as the work experience that qualified you for the job, unless you are an international graduate of a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada. .
