The Venezuelan delegation that participates in the 69th Ordinary Meeting of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (OIEA), headed by the Deputy Minister of Application of Scientific Knowledge, denounced the US military deployment in the Caribbean Sea that would endanger regional stability.
In the Telegram channel, of the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, it is specified that in the event, which is held in Vienna, Austria, 180 Member States of the Agency participate and until September 19 they will address issues such as the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The Venezuelan delegation is led by Alberto Quintero, Deputy Minister of Application of Scientific Knowledge of the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology, who highlighted the relevance of promoting the role of atomic energy in the promotion of peace, health and global development, ensuring that its application does not contribute to war purposes.
“From Venezuela we reiterate our support for any political dialogue or negotiation that allows to achieve lasting and equitable agreements, based on respect for the principles and objectives established in the United Nations Charter and international law,” said the Venezuelan representative.
He also expressed his “firm condemnation of attacks and bombings carried out by Israel and the United States against nuclear facilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, denounced any attempt to use non -proliferation as a tool to justify aggressions and interventions, and we express our support for the strengthening of the OIEA technical cooperation program for the benefit of the state of Palestine, which faces a criminal genocide by Israel. He stressed that «in the international event, the achievements of disuse radioactive sources are being presented, together with the specialized training of more than 130 professionals in this field. We also highlight the reception of 10 international missions of experts who have provided advice to the national regulatory authority ».
He said that «as a historical reference in disarmament and not proliferation, Latin America and the Caribbean established with the Tlatelolco treaty in 1967 the first free nuclear weapons zone in a densely populated region. This treaty not only marked a transcendental milestone, but also represents a legal commitment that all signatories, including the United States, must respect.
He pointed out that “for this reason, we denounce the aggressions facing our country due to the US military deployment in the Caribbean, endangering regional stability and committing a peaceful zone of peace. We reiterate our call to the definitive lifting of unilateral coercive measures imposed by Western countries that affect more than 30 nations and hinder technical cooperation projects ».
In this regard, the Venezuelan delegation urged the international community to act in favor of peace and respect for human rights, guided by the fundamental principles established by the United Nations Organization.
