Last Monday the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) proclaimed his complete support for Miguel Herrerathe coach, despite having been able to add only two of the six possible points in the first matches of the Conafclassification for the World Cup 2026.
Osael Marotopresident of the FCRF, appeared before the media and made it clear that the coaching staff had absolute support from Executive Committee. Even so, he did not hesitate to state that they are a bit concerned about the results obtained by the last games. Anyway, he reported that he gathered that it happened with the coach was merely so that he could report the first days, review what happened and analyze what he raises for the future.
In fact, he clarified that “Miguel’s continuity was never in doubt. That was more a matter of the media that began to speculate”, after the coach was harshly criticized by the same media, which even asked for his departure.
During the next record of teams, Costa Rica plays everything in his visit to Honduras on October 9, and on the 13th that faces Nicaragua at home. Maroto commented in his appearance before the media the possibility that the Federation has suggested Miguel Herrera to call more experienced players this next window, he assured that “it is a hundred percent decision of Miguel if he is going to make changes or not.”

With only four games to play, Costa Rica and Haiti are tied with two points, Nicaragua is in the tail with just one point, and Honduras leads it with four. Only the first selection of each group will have a direct ticket for the 2026 World Cup. On the other hand, the two best seconds of the remaining three groups can be played with four other selections from the other confederations.
