A fire occurred on Monday at the Amalia Simoni hospital, from Camagüeyforced to transfer three patients in critical to another hospital.
The fire occurred around 9:00 in the morning due to an “electric overload” and affected the hospital’s generator group transformer, As reported the institution itself.
The response to the fire was “immediate” both by the direction of the hospital and by the Firefighters and the electricity company, which allowed the flames to be extinguished and restored the electrical service in less than three hours, according to the official statement.
However, as preventive action and “with the heart put in the care of each life”, three patients in critical condition were transferred to the Manuel Ascunce Domenech provincial hospital.
“This action was executed with absolute success without any incident, prioritizing at all times the integrity of our patients,” says the note signed by Dr. Lilianny María Hidalgo Ruiz, general director of the Amalia Simoni Hospital.
“Total normality”
The statement reaffirms the “unwavering vocation” of the Camagüeano hospital and ensures that the situation was already controlled, although it does not explain whether the patients transferred were returned to the medical center or if they remain in the Provincial Hospital.
“All our systems are operations with total normality, always committed to providing the best possible attention,” concludes the report, which appreciates the “joint effort and dedication” of the forces and authorities involved in the recovery of their services.
The fire in the generator set of the Amalia Simoni hospital adds to other acts of this type that have occurred on the island in recent times, both in wooded areas and in homes, state entities, electrical stations and other sites.
These facts, even those who have not left victims, have a significant impact for affected people and entities, at a time when the island crosses a severe economic and also energy crisis, which maintains without electrical service a good part of the country during each day.
In this context, and even when hospitals are among the prioritized sites against the blackouts, their circuits have also suffered effects due to the high generation deficit or general collapses such as that occurred last week, which has forced to use in these circumstances the structured groups destined for emergency situations.
