The president herself described as a “novelty” that for the first time a woman will give the cry of independence.
“For the first time, a woman is going to shout. It’s quite a novelty,” he said last Thursday, September 11.
The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) recalls that during the early hours of September 16, 1810, the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla convened through bells in the parish of Dolores, Guanajuato, to get up in arms against the Spanish crown.
The independence of Mexico was consumed on September 27, 1821 under the Plan of Iguala, proclaimed by Agustín de Iturbide and Vicente Guerrero.
In 1845, former president Antonio López de Santa Anna officially celebrated the ‘Ceremony of the Scream’ to remember Cura Hidalgo and the heroes who fought for independence; It also established that the ceremony is held every September 15 at 11:00 p.m.
51 years later, in 1896, Porfirio Díaz, then president of Mexico, ordered that the bell used by Hidalgo be moved to the CDMX, to incorporate it into the celebrations for Independence, in addition to being placed on the main balcony of the National Palace. From then on, it was established that the bell was replayed every year.

Sheinbaum: Mexico is a free country
The weekend, President Claudia Sheinbaum stressed that Mexico is and will be a free, independent and sovereign country.
“In this month of the country, we know the Mexicans and Mexicans that independence is conquered every day and that in our mind, our heart and in the history of Mexico we know that Mexico is a free, independent and sovereign country, and that it will continue to be by the will of its people,” he said.
