Ipea: Fall in inflation was more felt by the poorest population

Paraisópolis massacre completes five years without punishment

In August, the fall in inflation was more felt by the poorest families. While the official index was negative at 0.11%the cost of living for families that earn up to R $ 3,300 was a decrease over 0.20%. Already at the other end, homes with monthly income over R $ 22 thousand, the inflation was positive at 0.10%.Ipea: Fall in inflation was more felt by the poorest population

The finding is in Monthly Bulletin Inflation By income range of the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), a body linked to the Ministry of Planning and Budget.

The study compares the official inflation, determined by the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), with the cost of living of various income ranges.

Of the six monthly family income ranges, the three lowest had the most pronounced perception of deflation (average price drop):

  • Very low income: -0.29%
  • Low Income: -0.21%
  • average -low income: -0.19%
  • Average income: -0.07%
  • IPCA: -0.11%
  • High average income: 0%
  • High Income: 0.10%

The survey divides families by the following monthly income ranges:

  • Very low: less than R $ 2,202.02
  • Low: between R $ 2,202.02 and R $ 3,303.03
  • Baixa average: between R $ 3,303.03 and R $ 5,505.06
  • Average: between R $ 5,505.06 and R $ 11,010.11
  • High average: between R $ 11,010.11 and R $ 22,020.22
  • High: Above R $ 22,020.22

The IPCA investigates the cost of living for families with income of one to 40 minimum wages. Currently the minimum value is R $ 1,518.

Food and Light Account

According to the author of the research, Maria Andreia Parente Lameiras, the poorest families had greater relief in the pocket in August because of the consumption profile, with greater weight for items such as food and housing.

“In addition to the intensification of the food deflation path at home, the fall in electricity tariffs, benefited by the incorporation of the Itaipu bonus, nullifying the pressure from the adoption of the Patamar 2 Red Flag, explains this stronger drop in inflation in the lowest income segments, given the weight of these items in the budget of these families,” he explains.

The so -called Itaipu bonus is the discount on the electricity bill that benefited 80.8 million consumers. As the Brazil agencya Bonus compensated the red tariff flag 2which adds R $ 7.87 to the account and light per 100 kWh consumed.

Ipea’s study points out that, in the case of food at home, cereal falls (-2.5%), tubers (-8.1%), coffee (-2.2%) and animal proteins (-2.43%), poultry and eggs (-0.8%) and milk (-1%) are highlighted.

For higher income ranges, Lameiras indicates, the deflation of food and energy “was partially offset by rising price in services, notably food outside the home and recreation.”

Accumulated

In 12 months, the perception of inflation is the reverse of the recorded in August, with the poorest families with greater weight in their pockets.

  • Very low income: 5.23%
  • Low Income: 5.33%
  • average-low income: 5.19%
  • Average income: 5.08%
  • Average-High Income: 5.07%
  • High Income: 5%

The accumulated 12 -month IPCA reaches 5.13%, above the government’s goal, from 3%per year, with tolerance of 1.5 percentage (PP) point (PP) to more or less, ie going to a maximum of 4.5%.

“In the last twelve months, the main inflationary pressures have come from food and beverage, housing, transport and health and personal care groups,” says the study.
