The undersecretary for Fiscal Policy at the Ministry of Economy, Erik Figueiredo, will assume the presidency of the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea). He will replace Carlos von Doellinger, who led the body since January 2019.
Professor at the Department of Economics at the Federal University of Paraíba, the new president of Ipea is a research productivity fellow from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Figueiredo has a doctorate in economics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and a postdoctoral degree from the University of Tennessee, in the United States.
The exchange is part of a process of restructuring the ministry. In the coming months, the ministry intends to create a special secretariat led by Adolfo Sachsida, currently special advisor for Strategic Affairs to Minister Paulo Guedes. Until the beginning of February, Figueiredo was subordinate to Sachsida in the Secretariat of Economic Policy.
