Although his government promulgated a few days ago the regulation of the law of the new pension system – which prevents more withdrawals from the AFPs in order to guarantee a minimum pension to those who accumulate enough contributions -, President Dina Boluarte surprised today with a new announcement.
The president declared that she is in favor of the eighth withdrawal of funds, currently under debate in Congress.
Only nine days ago, Boluarte signed the regulation that prevents more AFP releases.
The president said, in her speech, that the decision was adopted after coordinating with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and thinking about families that face urgent and impossible expenses.
“The money that all workers are discounted and goes to AFP is the money of the family that works; therefore, it is they who must decide at what time they require it and what they use for the welfare of their homes,” said Boluarte, this morning, after the meeting families with Punche, organized by family day.
With that pronouncement, the president set a clear position in front of a measure that had generated expectation in millions of affiliates.
Boluarte also put on the table the need to look beyond the immediate present. “The more resources we manage to raise as a state and the elderly are the contributions to the fiscal bank, we will act responsibly to guarantee a retirement with better expectations,” he said.
In that line, the head of state reaffirmed the commitment of her government to the sustainability of the pension system and with the stability of the national economy. He also urged citizens to evaluate with responsibility the use of their funds, always thinking about the security of their future.
The support for retirement comes at a time when the Executive insists on consolidating the economy and reactivating investment projects. “Our government is focused on unlocking projects and opening doors to investments that generate employment and development for the country,” said Boluarte.
The announcement was not isolated. He was accompanied by the president of the Council of Ministers, Eduardo Arana, and a large ministerial delegation: from women and vulnerable populations, social development and inclusion and education, to defense, interior, health, agriculture and energy and mines, among other portfolios.
Congress will discuss new retirement
The president of the Economy Commission, Víctor Flores, said last week that he requested a session with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Superintendence of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS), with urgency, to discuss this issue.
Populism of Boluarte
The economist David Tuesta criticized the surprise decision of Boluarte to support a new release of AFP funds.
“This support from the president to the eighth withdrawal of AFP gives a clear sign that Government openly populist and without complexes in her last year. Anything approved by her partners of Congress will give her the immediate ‘yes’. He will not oppose anything,” he wrote in his X account.
