He Foreign Ministry He officialized on Wednesday the change of denomination to his new building located Jirón Santa Rosa, in the Historic Center of Lima, which will now be named after the former chancellor José Antonio García Belaúndein recognition of his outstanding diplomatic career and his contribution to the foreign policy of the country.
The measure was formalized by ministerial resolution No. 0578-2025-RE and also contemplates the installation of a commemorative bust inside the diplomatic building located in Jr. Santa Rosa No. 139-151. It should be noted that the enclosure in question does not refer to the Palacio de Torre Tagle, as well as the Carlos García Bedoya building.
The official name “Ambassador José Antonio García Belaúnde” must be used in institutional contexts, respecting the honor and reputation of the honoree. According to the Ministry, the implementation of this measure will not generate additional expenses to the public treasure.
José García Belaúnde, who was Chancellor between 2006 and 2011, is remembered for his key role in the consolidation of international treaties, the legal defense of Peru before multilateral instances and its impulse to regional integration. The resolution highlights its “exemplary trajectory to the service of the nation and international law.”
The outstanding diplomat died in Madrid on July 4, at 77 years of age. His departure generated a series of expressions from various authorities in Peru, as well as former presidents and diplomats from other countries.
