More than nine months have passed and the constitutional complaints filed by congressmen Alejandro Muñante and Alejandro Cavero to disable in the public office exercise for a period of 10 years to the former president Pedro Castillo Due to the coup d’etat of December 7, 2022 they have not yet passed to the research stage.
Only yesterday, the Subcommission of Constitutional Accusations (SAC) delegated the case in the legislator for Somos Peru, Ana Zegarra, who within the framework of this process must evaluate the evidence presented and collect, at the hearing, the testimonies of the complainants, denounced, witnesses and others.
Zegarra assumes this task more than three months that the Permanent Commission of the Congress would grant the SAC – then presided over María Acuña Peralta – a period not exceeding 15 business days to carry out the investigation and submit its final report.
She is the third legislator to which this task is entrusted. Before the case was delegated to José Jerí, who resigned when assuming the driving of Parliament and was replaced by Martha Moyano. She, however, confirmed to Peru21 that it was inhibited due to her condition as a witness in the trial that is followed against the former president and her former ministers.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the disqualification of 10 years to Pedro Castillo, the constitutional complaint filed by Muñante also proposes to apply the same sanction to his Expremier Betssy Chávez and the former interior, foreign trade and defense, Willy Huerta, Roberto Sánchez and Emilio Bobbio, respectively.
