The Foreign Ministry assured that the “assault” to nine tuna fishermen occurred to 48 nautical miles northeast of the La Blanquilla Island, in waters that, they assure, are part of the exclusive economic zone of Venezuela. They demanded that the US immediately ceases these actions that put security and peace in the Caribbean at risk »

The Foreign Ministry denounced on Saturday, September 13, the “assault” to a tuna ship in Venezuelan waters by a group of US soldiers belonging to the fleet of the Jason Dunham missile destroyer, part of the war ships deployed by the United States in their operation against drug trafficking in the Caribbean.

From the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, said that “18 armed men” of the destroyer Jason Dunham boarded the “Carmen Rosa” tuna ship in the exclusive economic zone belonging to Venezuela.

He indicated that these fishermen, nine as he said, sailed to 48 nautical miles northeast of the island La Blanquilla when they were “assaulted illegally and hostile by a destroyer of the United States Navy.”

The incident occurred on Friday 12 and lasted for eight hours “preventing the communication and development of fishermen who fulfilled authorized task of tuna fishing, in an operation that lacks all strategic proportionality and that constitutes a direct provocation,” according to A statement.

Gil showed photos and videos recorded by the fishermen at the time of being approached by the armed military, who reached the boat in a quick boat while the background is observed to the American destroyer.

This is the second incident in which the Jason Dunham ship is involved since its deployment in the Caribbean. On September 4, the US denounced that two Venezuelan F-16 aircraft fly over near the destroyer. “This highly provocative maneuver was designed to interfere with our operations against narcoterrorism,” they said then.

According to the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, this new event was monitored and registered “minute by minute” by the National Armed Forces “with the air, naval and surveillance media that it possesses, accompanying at all times the fishermen until their release (…) without falling into provocations.”

In the opinion of the Foreign Minister, who described the facts of “embarrassing”, the United States is “in the search for an incident that justifies a war escalation in the Caribbean” to justify its “regime change policy.” He also assured that this country “exposes the lives” of its own combatants.

“The incident reflects the embarrassing behavior of political sectors in Washington that, irresponsibly, compromise military resources of the highest cost and soldiers trained as instruments to manufacture pretexts of war adventure,” he insisted.

The Foreign Ministry demanded that “immediately cease these actions that put security and peace in the Caribbean at risk,” while asking the US people to “recognize the seriousness of these maneuvers.”
