ANJE highlights the role of tourism in economic recovery

With the intention of creating a convergence space to highlight the economic sectors that generate foreign currency income in the Dominican Republic, this time the tourist activity, the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) held the meeting: “Why does everyone come to the DR? Behind the scenes.”

The panel, organized by the Economy and Energy Commission of ANJEwas carried out by Jacqueline Mora, technical deputy minister of the Ministry of Tourism; Juan Manuel Martín de Oliva, Vice President of the Tourism Business Area of ​​the Dominican People’s Bank; and Rafael Blanco, president of Asonahores.

“If we talk about tourismwe are talking about one of the main drivers of the Dominican economy, which has demonstrated its resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, being a promoter of economic recovery”, highlighted Luis Manuel Pellerano, president of ANJE.

According to a statement, Mora highlighted the diversity of the tourism Dominican and the strategy for its recovery: “We are not only a tourism of sun and beach. The first stage of the ministry’s strategy was the entire process of recovering the tourism and to put the Dominican Republic back on the spot light international, so it was achieved and could be done. This process is accompanied by the start of infrastructure works in all tourist centers to strengthen the entire cultural, gastronomic, events, sports, among others, “he said.

In addition, he added: “This strategy is based on the four pillars of transparency that the Ministry of Tourism such as collaboration, intelligence, quality and efficiency, which pursue the transformation of the ministry into an entity that bases its decisions on information, and that places it constantly at the service of citizens, which invests in improving services, innovating, with a view to the tourist and the entire sector, and that uses its resources in the most efficient way possible to multiply the impact it has had historically”.

Within the framework of the panel, Juan Manuel Martín de Oliva, vice-president of the Tourist Business Area of ​​Banco Popular, highlighted that “the presence of hoteliers, entrepreneurs from all industries related to tourismbanks and the public sector, in a tireless work environment, have caused a synergy, demonstrating the extraordinary investment climate that the Dominican Republic is experiencing”.

“As the main financier of the tourism industry in the country, we have seen this dynamism first-hand and we have felt the interest of foreign investors,” he said.

Rafael Blanco Tejera, president of Asonahores, pointed out: “We will maintain the standards that have earned us worldwide recognition to guarantee the presence of our country as a tourist destination, managing to boost investment opportunities and expansion of the sector tourism”.

The Economy and Energy Commission from ANJE is coordinated by economists and members of the board of directors ANJELeritza Monsanto and Francisco J. Garcia.
