Prosecutor Diego Pérez had initiated the investigation for irregularities during Cendoya’s administration. Among the crimes of unnamed abuse of functions were: shredding documents, leaking of the criminal complaint of the URSEC and the authorization of two radio stations in the interior of the country at the request of the former president of URSEC, Gabriel Lombide.
In this sense, they were also charged, the former Secretary General Óscar Mecol; the former president of URSEC, Gabriel Lombide, and Luján Varela, former secretary of Cendoya.
The case of Gustavo Sorrentino, a former URSEC official, who shredded papers when he no longer belonged to the unit, is still being investigated.
The complainant lawyer representing the URSEC, Jorge Barrera, welcomed the formalization sentence for three crimes of abuse of functions, two related to abusive handling with damage, of discretion to the point of violating the norm and the fact of destroying papers by a person who no longer belonged to the institution, he said.
