The version released this week by the Reuters agency, which attributes to the CIA an active role in military operations in Mexico, was described yesterday as “absolutely false” by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. In her morning conference, the president said that collaboration with the United States in security is limited to the exchange of information and that no operation in national territory involves foreign agents.
At another time of the conference, the president addressed the progress of investigations on the call Huachicol Prosecutor and stressed that arrests will continue. He recalled that this crime affects the treasury and generates unfair competition in the fuel market, as shipments are introduced without the payment of taxes and are placed at lower prices than those of legal importers and Pemex.
According to Reuters, during the capture of Ovid Guzmán López in January 2023, the CIA would have developed a “location package” and supervised to the elite group that executed the operation. Sheinbaum sharply rejected that version, said the actions correspond exclusively to Mexican institutions and said that his government could give more details next week.
“What Reuters says is false. In that report it is said that there are CIA agents working with the Mexican army in operations. It is absolutely false, it is not true,” he said and explained that when there is an exchange of intelligence data with Washington, they are analyzed and, in case of confirming, they are used only by security institutions to perform operations.
Fight a Huachicol fiscal
About Huachicol Prosecutor, the most recent case, he said, originated last March, when a ship was insured in Tampico that declared naphtas with a temporary import permit, but actually contained diesel. The irregularity allowed to open a broad investigation that resulted in the capture of sea elements, businessmen and civilians.
Sheinbaum reported that other smuggling schemes have also been detected, such as the use of ferrotanques with illegal fuel that circulated by rail.
