Omar García Harfuch, secretary of Federal Citizen Security, reported that Requena has an arrest warrant for crimes of criminal association, extortion and express kidnapping.
Raquena, aka “El Abuelo”, was transferred to Mexican territory after being located and captured in the South American country.
According to official information, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the National Intelligence Center were fundamental to find the former Mexican official.
For decades and by intervals, Raquena was in charge of security tasks at the state level, but was raised as secretary to the government of the Morenista Adam Augusto López, who later left to be part of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s cabinet.
Raquena is attributed the exponential growth of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in Tabasco and from which it was its criminal cell ” La Barredora ”, before both groups entered violent dispute.
He is also attributed to the growth of extortion, huachicoleo and drug trafficking, which led some cities of the State to be placed in 2024 among the first places of insecurity nationwide.
His criminal ties were revealed in October 2022, when the collective known as Guacamaya hacked and leaked millions of documents from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena).

Since then it was learned that more than ten military reports located Bermúdez Requena as a member of the CJNG in the state. However, López Hernández, who placed him in that position and by then he was already secretary of the Interior, minimized the revelations, which he considered “fantasies” and “said leaks.”
The then President Andrés Manuel López Obrador considered that the accusations against López Hernández for putting Bermúdez at the head of security were part of the attacks of “the conservatives.”
On the contrary, at the end of 2024, Javier May, current governor of Tabasco, and also from Morena, criticized his predecessors- López Hernández and Carlos Merino Campos, interim- for having kept him in office, since his relationship with organized crime was public.
It was until February 14, 2024 that the arrest warrant against Bermúdez Requena was turned, Miguel Ángel López Martínez, commander of the 30 Military Zone, revealed.

Adam defends himself
In July of this year, the coordinator of the senators of Morena, Adam Augusto López Hernández, said he was at the order of any authority that required it by the Bermúdez case.
At that time, opposition politicians already demanded that he pay accounts for having put a criminal at the head of state security.
López Hernández said at that time that during his management it was substantially reduced the criminal activity in Tabasco. Not to mention the name of Hernán Bermúdez, the former Secretary of the Interior stated that it was essential that the investigations in the case continue.
In the following weeks, he defended himself from accusations in the few public events in which he was seen.

Morena suspends her partisan rights
Also in July of this year, the National Commission of Honesty and Justice of Morena suspended the partisan rights of Hernán Bermúdez Requena.
Luisa María Mayor, leader of Morena, said at that time that the intention of the National Commission of her party is to expel Hernán, indicated by alleged links with organized crime.
Bermúdez affiliates Morena in 2023, according to the records of the party.
“We are not a cover of anyone and well, the important thing is that there is no impunity and in the specific case of our movement, it is the National Honesty and Justice Commission that is responsible for evaluating when someone who joined our party because they have committed some lack of alleged crime, let’s no longer say statute, these procedures are initiated ex officio to reach the expulsion,” said Luisa Mayor.
