Díaz-Balart meets Mike Hammer and thanks him “his solidarity with the Cuban people”

Miami, United States. -Cuban American congressman Mario Díaz-Balart met Wednesday with the business manager of the United States Embassy in Havana, Mike Hammer, and thanked him “his defense of the National Security of the United States and his solidarity with the Cuban people.”

In your social networksthe legislator highlighted Hammer’s efforts “to highlight the brave prodemocratic leaders who risk everything for the freedom of Cuba.”

Díaz-Balart also stressed the permanence of Hammer in office despite pressures of the Cuban government. “He continues in his position despite the constant threats and harassment of the regime against him and the United States,” he said.

The State Department also supported Hammer’s work on the island. An official of that institution declared Martí News that “Mike Hammer Mission Chief and the United States embassy proudly represent President Donald Trump, implementing a foreign policy of the United States first ‘and demanding the accountability of the Cuban regime due to its evil influence on the American continent.”

Since his arrival in Havana at the end of last year, Hammer has made trips through different provinces and has met with activists, opponents, relatives of political prisoners, religious leaders and members of civil society. The diplomatic headquarters has disseminated images and videos of these exchanges under the #Concubanosdepie label.

The Cuban regime has accused Hammer of promoting subversion during those tours. At the end of May, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a verbal protest note through its General Directorate of the United States, in which it He accused of interference in internal matters and violate the Vienna Convention.
