Executive Order No. 14,346, released by the United States Government on the 5th, made additional fees free to most Brazilian exports to the US of pulp and dinchial iron. In practice, in these products they will not even affect the 10%rate, announced in April, nor the 40%surcharge, applied on July 30.
In 2024, Brazil exported about US $ 1.84 billion of this group of products to the US, representing 4.6% of the total exported to that country, especially cellulose, in particular non -conic wood chemical pastes and conic wood chemical pastes, worth US $ 1.55 billion.
With the new exclusion, in total, it reaches 25.1% the amount of Brazilian exports to the US free of the 10% rate and the 40% surcharge imposed by the US government to Brazilian products.
“The government is still committed to reducing the incidence of US tariffs on Brazilian products. The latest US executive order represents an advance mainly for the Brazil’s pulp sector. But there is still much to be done and we continue to work for it,” said Vice President and Minister of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin.
Ministry data, on the 11th, show that of the total of Brazilian exports to the United States, which total US $ 40 billion, 34.9% (US $ 14.1 billion) are subject to additional 10% and 40% (totaling 50%); 16.7% (US $ 6.8 billion) to 10%; 25.1% (US $ 10.1 billion) are free of additional tariffs; and 23.3% or US $ 9.4 billion, subject to specific tariffs, applied to all countries.
