As of June of this year, 324 were recorded paralyzed public works In the agriculture sector. These projects mean more than S/7,580 million investment, revealed a report by the Comptroller General of the Republic.
Among these projects are that of Majes Siguas – II stage, the improvement and expansion of the agricultural border optimizing the water resources of the sub -basin of the Arma River, Coecados – Arequipa, and the continuation and culmination of the amojao irrigation project.
In this regard, the former Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Milton Von Hesse, explained that this result reflects poor state management to carry out works that would contribute to the progress of the sector.
“There are projects that have zero advance because the political discourse is prevailing, the announcement with inconsistencies, without substance. There are projects that were announced more than a year and so far we do not see them leave,” he said.
For the former official, the problem arises because institutionality is very weak in the country and because in the entities responsible for carrying out these works, hiring by influences and not by competences are being prioritized.
“The sectors have become allies of politicians and we see that they fill ministries with people who do not have competition. It is a weak government captured by different interest groups,” he said.
