The opening of the festival, this Friday, will feature the French accordionist Lionel Suarez, at the Olinda Seminary, at 19h, and a concert by musician Edu Lobo, in the Church of the See, considered the largest five hundredist church in Brazil, at 20h. Despite being from Rio de Janeiro, its roots are Pernambuco.

“All my origin is Pernambuco and much of my music receives this influence, so open a festival like the treat, among the most important in Brazil, and even more in Olinda, can only make me very happy,” celebrates Edu Lobo.

The closing of this first night will count on the return to the stages of the Pernambuco group Cordel do Fogo Encantado, in its original formation. The presentation is scheduled for 0:30.

A member of the group, Lirinha reveals that they programmed to return to the stage this semester, from the festival, which will provide the opportunity to perform in squares of both Olinda and São Paulo.

“We understand as a good return mystique of a new show and a new history of the enchanted fire cord. Our desire and work is so that the spectacle words to color sky circulate as a tour, but our concentration is in this return, which brings many special symbols to the group, this return in public square, at these two very important cities for the history of the band,” said Lirinha.

On Saturday (13), one of the highlights will be the Cuban Roberto Fonseca, a multi-instrumentalist considered one of the biggest names in the current jazz in Latin America music. The same night, the French trio Delgrès, under the leadership of guitarist and singer Pascal Danaë, promises to show the contribution of the Afro-Caribenha diaspora to Blues.

The closing of the festival, on Sunday (14), will be at Praça do Carmo, with Pernambuco pianist Amaro Freitas and his hepteto. Before him, the mandolin master Hamilton of the Netherlands also performs with his trio.

Festival’s creator and artistic director, Lu Araújo said that the idea of including cinema in the program comes from the first edition of the festival and seeks to allow artists to be seen by different angles.

“Many times, we combine the issue of concert, the show on the stage, in churches, with the life and the work of this artist. This year, it has a very special component, has very recent films, productions that are movie thebographies and tell stories of very important artists, many of them from frevo,” he explains.

Likewise, Lu Araújo points out that the Forum of Ideas, which will promote conversation wheels, is an extension of this proposal to bring a broader view of the artists.

“It is a way for people to be able to know a little more about the trajectories, what these artists who lead work think,” he says, adding that “everything is a complement, but everything is running and circulating according to music and this beautiful city that is Olinda.”

Partnership

After taking names of Brazilian instrumental music to the French festival Jazz in Marciac, this time is the treat who brings musicians from the European country to Brazil.

Among the main names representing France’s contemporary music at the festival will be drummer Anne Pace, saxophonists Samy Thiébault and Baptiste Herbin and trumpeter Nicolas Gardel.

“France is a special component in this edition, because we have this partnership within the Brazil-France Crusade Season. Jazz Marciac, which is a very important festival, perhaps one of the largest in the world, has 47 editions, all the big names in the Jazz segment and even other segments have passed through it. So it was amazing for the treat to constitute this partnership. Araújo.

“We brought many artists [da França] Over the years, artists who were emerging in their careers. Marciac’s jazz is an important partner, this certainly makes the festival this year gain a big and different force, ”he says.

The meeting is promoted within the France-Brazil 2025 season, with the French Republic, Institut Français, Guimarães Rosa Institute, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
