Brazil reaches a new record with 350 million tons of grain

China suspends purchase of soybeans from 5 Brazilian exporters

THE Grain production in Brazil again hit a record, reaching the mark of 350.2 million tons in the 2024-25 crop. The result represents, in terms of volume, an increase of 16.3% compared to the 2023/24 crop, when 324.36 million tons were collected.Brazil reaches a new record with 350 million tons of grain

According to the 12th grain crop survey, released on Thursday (11) by the National Supply Company (Conab), the Result was driven, in particular, by soybean, corn, rice and cotton production – responsible for 47 million of the 49.1 million tons harvested more in the current crop compared to the previous one.

“This growth verified in the current crop compared to cycle 2023/24 is attributed to the expansion of 1.9 million hectares in the cultivated area, from 79.9 million hectares last season to 81.7 million hectares in 2024/25, as well as the favorable climatic conditions, especially in the Midwest, especially Mato Grosso,” Inforna the Conab Bulletin.

According to the company, the favorable climate influenced the recovery in national average crop productivity by 13.7%, being estimated at 4,284 pounds per hectare in the current cycle, while by 2023/24 it was 3,769 kg/ha.

Soy

THE Soy was the most cultivated product, recording an estimated record production of 171.5 million tons. This value corresponds to a high of 20.2 million tons compared to the previous crop.

This “historical result” reflects, according to Conab, the increase in the area sown combined with the improvement of the average national crop productivity.

“Given more favorable weather conditions in most producing regions compared to 2023/24, the average national crop performance in the current cycle has reached 3,621 kg/ha, the largest ever recorded,” said Conab.

Goiás was the state that obtained the highest productivity in this crop, with 4,183 kg/ha. Rio Grande do Sul, with 2,342 kg/ha, was the federative unit that obtained the smallest result, since its producing regions went through high temperatures and irregularities in precipitation from December until the end of February.

Corn and cotton

Another product with record result was corn, considering the 3 crops of the grain, estimated at 6,391 pounds per hectare in the current cycle.

“With this, a total production of 139.7 million tons in crop 2024/25 is expected, an increase of 20.9% compared to 2023/24 and the largest harvest of the product already recorded by the state,” says the company.

THE First crop has an estimated production of 24.9 million tons, which corresponds to an 8.6% growth compared to the previous crop. With 97% of the area harvested and 3% in maturation, the Second crop should record 24.4% growth in production, provided for in 112 million tons.

THE Third corn crop is still under development. It is expected to result in a production of 2.7 million tons.

It is also expected record in cotton production, with crops producing 4.1 million tons – a result that represents a high of 9.7% over the previous crop. This increase takes place from 7.3% of the sown area, as well as favorable weather conditions.

“By the end of August, 72.8% of the area was already harvested and 27.2% was in maturation,” said Conab.

Rice and beans

With the harvest already closed, the rice totaled 12.8 million tons produced. Result was a “significant growth” of 20.6% on 2023/24. It is, according to the company, the 4th largest ever registered, behind the volumes obtained in the 2010/2011 seasons, 2004/2005 and 2003/2004.

“The increase reflects the expansion of 9.8% in the sown area and favorable weather conditions, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, the main producing state,” the company said.

The three bean crops are estimated at about 3.1 million tons, which will ensure the country’s internal supply.

Winter Cultures

With the sowing already completed, the Wheat was the product that, among winter crops, stood out. In terms of area, it presented a 19.9% reduction compared to the previous crop, totaling 2.4 million hectares in the current cycle.

In terms of productivity, it tends to present a recovery, leaving 2,579 pounds per hectare in 2024 to 3,077 kg/ha this year.

“Still, production is estimated at 7.5 million tons in this crop, a 4.5% reduction compared to last season,” said Conab.
