Six families lost their home after the collapse that occurred in San Lázaro, between Oquendo and Márquez González.
Madrid, Spain.- A partial collapse occurred on Wednesday in a building located in San Lázaro between Oquendo and Márquez González, in the Popular Council Cayo Bone. The incident affected six family nuclei, composed of 14 people in total.
The Municipal Assembly of the Popular Power of Centro Habana specified in its social networks that the collapse took place in a traffic hall that connected rooms on the first floor of a building previously declared as uninhabitable and irreparable.
According to the official information, the municipal mayor, the director of Housing, troops of the rescue and rescue body, as well as members of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) and firefighters attended. The Assembly confirmed that no deceased or injured were reported.
The authorities assured that the affected families are being “served and protected in safe places”, although no details were offered about these spaces. On previous occasions, after similar events in the capital, affected residents They have had to spend the night on the street Together with their belongings, given the lack of solutions.
This new collapse adds to a series of structural collapses that in recent years have hit Havana, marked by the deterioration of buildings, the shortage of construction materials and the lack of interest of the Cuban regime for systematic maintenance; which contrasts with the unstoppable construction of hotels.
The Government has recognized that some 1,000 homes are collapsed in the capital, a situation that has caused the death of adults and children.
The scarcity of adequate housing has led many families to live in collective shelters administered by the Government, which lack the necessary basic resources. Other people choose to return to buildings in poor condition, despite the risk of collapse, due to the bad conditions of the shelters.
