They announce restoration of SEN, but without supplying the total demand of the country

Central Termoeléctrica (CTE) Antonio Guiteras

The situation remains complex in numerous provinces, where thousands of Cubans remain without electrical service.

Miami, United States. – The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) reported in his official X account that “the national electrical system is already restored.” Minutes before, the institution itself He had specified which were already connected “all the provinces of Cuba to the national electrical system.” However, restricted capabilities and effects on basic services continue to report on the field.

According to the follow -up “Minute by minute” of Cubadebateat 1:27 pm this Thursday “almost the whole country” was “again connected to the national electrical system”, but, however, it was not “possible to supply the total demand of the country”, with an availability of 1,486 megawatts (MW) at that time. The state media added that to strengthen the system, synchronization was foreseen in the afternoon of CTE Antonio Guiteras.

In parallel, the Electric Union (UNE) detailed Provincial experiences that show the fragility of restoration. The engineer Osvany Núñez Peña, technical director of the Granma Electric Company, explained that after the fall of the SEN – this Wednesday at 9:14 am, for the fifth time in a year – in its province a “hybrid generation system” was applied with diesel engines and partial incorporation of solar parks.

Núñez Peña also warned that microsystems launched after the total blackout “are not robust and any disturbance (…) can cause its disconnection,” he said.

The situation is also “complex” in Villa Clara. The general director of the provincial electricity company, engineer Eduardo Pérez Reyes, told Cubadebate: “At this time, Villa Clara only has 30 MW to provide service.” He said that only 37 of the more than 160 circuits had energy in the morning and that municipalities like Corralillo remained without service. “To the extent of the availability of generation provided nationwide, the service will be gradually restored,” he said.

In Cienfuegos, Unit 3 of CTE Carlos Manuel de Céspedes synchronized the SEN and contributed 142 MW at the time of the report, with an increase in load planned up to 158 MW. 26 circuits (30.34 MW) were restored, two microsystems were operated and vital services were guaranteed in five hospitals; The Cumanayagua municipality continued as the most affected.

The effects transcend domestic lighting. Aguas of Havana reported a progressive schedule and conditioned by the stability of the SEN and the South Cuenca Fuente, with priority for hospitals and reprogramming for locations. The entity was explicit: “Waters of Havana reiterates that all operations are conditioned to stability in the SEN and at the source of South Cuenca Abasto. We apologize for the discomfort caused.”

For its part, the Ministry of Transportation reported airport operations with alternative means in terminals of Santiago de Cuba, Holguín and Santa Clara, while the rest received energy from the SEN. There were effects on electrical mobility services (tricycles, load fleets and electric buses in some bases), with partial continuity of national buses and circulation of national passenger trains thanks to electrogens in stations.
