Members of the Lawyers for the Protection of the Environment (INSAPROMA) deposited a complaint, backed by hundreds of citizens and with a civil actor, against corruption and pollution attributed to the Punta Catalina’s thermoelectric plantbefore the Attorney General’s Office in Persecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA) and the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Defense of the Environment and Natural Resources (proedemarine).
The complaint requests that the replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy of Punta Catalina be ordered within a period not exceeding four years, and the elimination of toxic coal ashes of this central deposited in the Batey San José, in the municipal district of Catalina, Pravia province.
Similarly, it requires the accused of paying in a solidarity of 3 billion dollars For the damages caused by corruption and pollution of Punta Catalina to the Dominican State, to the community, to the complainants, to the social actors, to the environment and the natural resources.
The complaint requests that the deprivation of liberty and millionaire fines be imposed on President Danilo Medina, the Ministers of Environment and Natural and Energy Resources and Mines of the past and of the present government, the past and current administrators of Punta Catalina, strong penalties to Odebrecht, to Tecnimont, to the star group and the company of power generation Punta Catalina, EGEPC.
Tens of complainants and representatives of solidarity organizations attended the complaints, together with the lawyers, they remained with banners in the esplanade of the Attorney General’s Office, launching slogans and offering statements and testimonies to the media.
In the extensive complaint, the individualized accusations of the accused, the penalties, the corresponding facts and evidence are exposed.
Also in the file the damages caused by corruption and pollution are identified. Damages to the health of the population are detailed, in agricultural production, in fishing, in coastal-marine life and by the flood of the sea in the coast of Sabana Uvero de Paya by the diversion of the marine current caused by the long breakwater of the carbonero port of Punta Catalina.

In the deposited document, numerous witnesses are cited with high professional qualifications on the damages and losses caused by corruption and pollution of Punta Catalina.
Among the experts cited are the electromechanical engineer Raúl Cabrera, the agronomist Milton Martínez, the epidemiologist Carlos Sánchez, the botanist Luis Carvajal, the coast-marine expert Adrián Gutiérrez, the chemist Marcos Rodríguez, and among the international witnesses, Lauri Myllyvyta of the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air, Create, Create, Create.
