Mexico investigates the shooting murder of a Cuban migrant in Chiapas

Mexican authorities they investigate death of a Cuban migrant who was found this Sunday in the back of a truck in the municipality of Pijijiapan, in the Mexican state of Chiapas. The body of the person who was identified as Cristóbal “presented several shots,” the State Attorney General said.

According to the first investigations carried out by forensic experts, inside the white truck “a long firearm and a charger were found,” for which reason the so-called protocol of actions for the investigation of the crime of homicide was applied.

Local media pointed to members of the National Guard security corps as those responsible for shooting at the vehicle in which 12 migrants, eight Cubans, three Africans from Ghana and one Brazilian were traveling. The “driver did not stop his march and threw the truck at them”, so the uniformed men “fired their weapons”, quoted the newspaper Millennium.

Irineo Mujica, from Pueblo Sin Fronteras, denounced the attack on migrants and assured that there were 13 injured, for which a complaint was filed with the National Human Rights Commission. A soldier who requested anonymity, confirmed to the Associated Press that the person reported as deceased was an undocumented person and that other foreigners were injured, without specifying their nationality or whether they are being detained or in hospital.

Southwest Mexico has experienced an unprecedented migratory wave since the beginning of the year, with a historical flow of 147,000 illegal immigrants detected from January to August.

According to data compiled by the World Organization for Migration (IOM), from January to September 612 migrants have died on the way from various countries to reach the United States. In addition, the IOM has a registry of more than 5,500 missing persons and classified as the most dangerous places for the undocumented the border between Mexico and the United States and the Darien jungle, between Colombia and Panama.

Panama investigates 1,000 complaints of sexual abuse of migrants who have passed through the Darien jungle.

Meanwhile, in Mexico, in the caravan made up of 1,200 migrants moving north through Chiapas, five minors with dengue were detected, “one of them seriously with hemorrhagic dengue”, who is hospitalized in the rural hospital of Mapstepec. “The adult companions of three of them refused to receive medical attention on the grounds that the caravan would continue on its way”, points out the National Institute of Migration.
