While the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues, Argentina received on Tuesday the first family of Ukrainians escaping from the war, at the Ezeiza International Airport.
The foreigners they are a woman with a 9-year-old son and her grandmother; her husband had to stay in his country due to President Zelensky’s order not to let men out Ukrainians between 18 and 60 years old to defend the territory.
Although the names of the Ukrainians are kept in reserve, it was known that they arrived in perfect condition and that initially they will be housed in the province of Buenos Aires.
The citizens would have arrived in the country with the support of the Ukrainian community residing in Argentina, and not through the consular offices with a refugee application.
As reported by the newspaper Perfil, the family managed to leave Ukraine through the border with Poland. They then settled for a few days in the Netherlands, from where they managed to be transferred to Argentina.
However, it is expected that in the coming weeks more refugee citizens will arrive from Ukrainian territory, both Argentines and citizens of other nationalities that require a safe place and humanitarian assistance due to the conflict.
Argentina will grant a humanitarian visa to Ukrainians
The Foreign Ministry announced that it will grant a visa in the category of temporary resident to Ukrainians who need refuge from the escalation of war in their country. The benefit will also apply to foreigners residing in Ukraine.
Residence will be granted for a period of 3 years with the possibility of applying for permanent residencegiven that it is unknown how long the conflict will last and the repercussions that the territory will suffer in the long term.
Meanwhile, with the support of the consular office and the White Helmets, 86 Argentines have been evacuated from Ukraine with all possible security conditions, because despite the sanctions, Russia does not back down with its military operation.
