In 2024, the municipality led the agricultural production value ranking in the country, reaching R $ 7.2 billion, pushed mainly by soybean cultivation. The oilseed yielded a harvest of 2.08 million tons and represents almost half of the total value of agricultural production of smile: R $ 3.3 billion.

Sorriso is also a leader in corn production value (R $ 2.4 billion), in addition to occupying fourth position for beans (R $ 195.7 million) and Friday for cotton (R $ 1.3 billion).

The data are part of the Municipal Agricultural Production, released this Thursday (11) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The survey showed that last year, the value of agricultural production in the country was R $ 783.2 billion.

Despite the strength of soy in Sorriso, the city is not the largest producer of the grain in the country. The title belongs to São Desidério, in western Bahia, which produced 2.09 million tons of the grain, with value reaching R $ 3.7 billion.

Brazil is the largest soy producer in the world, with 144.5 million tons in 2024. Of the ten municipalities that lead the agricultural production value ranking, eight have soy as the main product cultivated. The exceptions are the Mato Grosso Sapezal and Campo Novo do Parecis, driven by cotton.

The presence of six cities of Mato Grosso in the list portrays the power of the state as the main barn in the country. Check out the participation of the five states with the largest slices of the total value of national agricultural production:

  1. Mato Grosso: 15.4%
  2. São Paulo: 15.1%
  3. Minas Gerais: 11.1%
  4. Rio Grande do Sul: 9.7%
  5. Paraná: 9.2%

A highlight informed by the survey is that from 2023 to 2024, the difference between Mato Grosso and São Paulo is tight. In 2023, Mato Grosso accounted for 18.8% of the value of national agricultural production; and São Paulo, 13.8%. In the interval of one year, the difference of 5 percentage points (PP) became 0.3 pp

IBGE explains that Mato Grosso has dropped in production and the quotation of soy and corn. Sao Paulo was driven by the increase in orange production valueproduct of which he is a leader in national production, and in the value of Arabica coffee, standing out as the second largest national producer. The leader in coffee production is Minas Gerais.

Paraná fell from third to fifth position because of problems in the summer crop, committed by climate problems.
