The fate of the former ministerial cabinet chief, Betssy Chávezit remained in the hands of the provisional supreme judge Edhin Campos Barranzuela, who on Thursday, September 11, must resolve if he dictates 12 months of impediment of departure from the country.
The measure was requested by the Supreme Prosecutor Zoraida Ávalos in the framework of the process that faces for its alleged participation in the failed coup d’etat of former President Pedro Castillo, which occurred on December 7, 2022.
The virtual hearing is scheduled for 2:30 in the afternoon and the magistrate will hear the arguments of the Prosecutor’s Office and the defense of the former prime minister before issuing her decision.
According to the Public Ministry, the restriction is necessary to guarantee the presence of Chávez in the oral trial faced with Castillo and other former officials.
It should be remembered that on September 3, the provisional supreme judge Juan Carlos Checkley ordered that Chávez face the process under appearance with restrictions, after considering that there was a risk of escape.
In its resolution, Checkley said that these rules are “suitable, necessary and proportional” to ensure the subjection of the former minister to the process, under the warning that, in case of breach, the appearance mandate will be revoked and preventive prison is ordered.
