The budget of Brazilian families had a relief in August. In an interview with the program The Voice of Brazilthis Wednesday (10), the Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming, Paulo Teixeira, said that the rice stood out with attractive prices on the supermarket shelves.
Important products at the consumer table that presented price reduction in August were tomatoes (-13.39%), potatoes (-8.59%), onion (-8.69%), rice (-2.61%) and ground coffee (-2.17%). In fuels, gasoline fell by 0.94%, ethanol retreated 0.82%and vehicle gas, 1.27%.
Paulo Teixeira celebrated the reduction in the five -pound rice bag.
“Let’s say the flagship of this deflation is rice. Who paid last year, at this time, 5 kilos of rice to $ 30, $ 27, $ 28 -today is paying $ 15, $ 16, $ 17, $ 18,” he said.
The minister highlighted Brazilian agricultural production as one of the prices reduction agents. He said that the results of the last survey of the 2024/2025 grain crop recorded record.
“We have for the third year, and will be announced on Thursday (11), a record of crop, was in 2023, in 2024 and we will also beat this year. For the third year, we have records of the crop plan and investment in agriculture. In the general crop plan, about $ 500 billion, in family farming, $ 78 billion, with the difference that family farming has negative interest, subsidized interest rates.
With the influence of the drop in prices of housing, food and beverage groups, Brazil had negative inflation of 0.11% last month. The result is 0.37 percentage point below that recorded in July, according to the broad consumer price index (IPCA) released on Wednesday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
This is the first negative index since August 2024 and the most significant since September 2022. In the accumulated 2025, inflation is 3.15% and, in 12 months, at 5.13%, below 5.23% registered in the previous 12 months.
According to the minister, “it is important to say that this has nothing to do with the tariff. The rate was previous, it was in June that food deflation began and will continue this trend, with the government acting. President Lula has the theme of inflation control as one of his largest concerns,” added Teixeira.
