Charagua commemorated the 60 years of foundation of the San Pedro Claver and Alegría SchoolInstitution that has formed generations of Charibueños.
The director, María Nélida Pórcel Muñoz, made a story in the history of the educational establishment, founded in 1965 thanks to the impulse of Father Antonio Abad and a group of parents who managed before the authorities to make it come true. It was Father Abad who chose the name in honor of San Pedro Claver, Jesuit saint known for your delivery and service to the most needy.
The Foundation took place on February 8, 1965, with its inauguration on February 29 of the same year, under ministerial resolution of October 14, 1964. Since then, the anniversary is celebrated every September 9, in honor of the feast of the Patron Saint.
In the beginning, the Jesuits, through Father Abad, They asked for support from the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of the presentation, who arrived in Charagua on January 24, 1965 to join the educational mission. These are the Sisters Juana de la Passion (Estela Reyes), Silvia del Rosario (Leticia Gutiérrez), Olga María (Ana Luisa Escóbar) and María Cristina del Salvador (María Clelia Gonzales). Until 1980, the school was under its administration.
Subsequently, between 1981 and 1993, the institution was in charge of teachers Édgar Pérez and Julio Cuéllar Peña. A new chapter opened in 1994, when the institution was integrated into the education system of Fe y Alegría, thanks to the management of Reverend Father Bernardo Gantier, first coordinator of Fe y Alegría in Charagua.
“Today is a very special day. One day loaded with history, emotion and gratitude. We meet to celebrate the 60 years of institutional life of our beloved educational unity. Six decades in which this noble house of studies has been a lighthouse of knowledge, values and hope for many generations, ”said the director during the commemorative act.
The San Pedro Claver and Alegría School remains an educational reference in the region, because it combines education with training in values, in addition to its commitment to Charagueña youth.
