The Plenary of Congress approved – in the first vote – declare on September 28 of each year as the day of the National Anthem of Peru, with the purpose of strengthening national identity and the sense of pride and belonging to the nation.
The initiative was backed with 59 votes in favor, 34 against and 14 abstentions, And she was supported by the president of the Culture Commission, Susel Paredes, who described her as an act of historical justice based on a rigorous research work.
This date commemorates the first official interpretation of the National Anthem on September 28, 1821 by the soprano Rosa Merino, under the direction of Don José de San Martín.
The law establishes that Every September 28, at 12:00 hours, the anthem will be entonated in all public, private, educational and university entities of the country, and transmitted by national and local means.
In addition, civic and cultural acts will be promoted nationwide to disseminate the historical importance of the national anthem as a symbol of national unity and pride.
The day will be recognized as Civic Patriotic Day working throughout the country.
