Personalities from different sectors have ruled in rejection of the proposal to grant special work permits to Haitian citizens with irregular immigration status, included in the final report of the dialogue on the crisis in Haiti and its implications for the Dominican Republic, delivered on Tuesday to President Luis Abinader by the Economic and Social Council (CES).
Such is the case of the lawyer and former head of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), José Ricardo Taveraswho warned that the possible regularization plan could become a “new failure.”
«If it is done, and it would have to be necessarily through a law, there is no possible way that this plan does not invite a new failure. So that the Dominican government has no more alternative than applying the General Migration Law, ”said the former official.

On his side, Pelegrín Castillo SemánPresident of the Progressive National Force (FNP), said that the international problem of a failed state, as is the case of the neighboring country, is not resolved with a migratory labor approach.
“As I anticipated … the CES, unfortunately, has served as a vessel of the RD Pilate … They do not quite understand that the scheme that was mounted for the mastery of the island market of the 25 or 30 million … is a stupidity at the same time as a crime,” wrote the former deputy in his account of social network X.

Meanwhile, the economist and television producer, Ramón Núñez Ramírezsaid that the main objective of the aforementioned dialogue was Haitian labor regularization. In addition, he called on the nationalist sectors and the opposition to “Stay firm.”

“The issue was addressed and there are recommendations on how to handle this issue,” added Rafael Toribio, president of the Economic and Social Council (CES), when asked about members of the press, after completing the meeting in the National Palace.
Political maturity stands out in dialogue
However, the president Luis Abinader He described as a “memorable” and “unprecedented” fact the final report prepared by the Economic and Social Council, highlighting that he was born from the discussions between various sectors.
In addition, Gabriel del Río Doñépresident of the Classist Trade Union Confederation, stressed that during the conversation many issues of interest were discussed, so he expects the government to study the 151 initiatives that were delivered to them.

“We hope that the government … study and believe the permanent commission to follow up all these issues,” he said.
